Kanab City Heritage and Historic Preservation Board

As suburban sprawl and development make more and more places look the same, it becomes even more important for communities like Kanab to keep our identity intact by protecting our historic resources.
Kanab’s historic buildings and sites tell the story of Kanab, both of what it is and how it came to be.
The
Kanab City Heritage and Historic Preservation Board is dedicated to making sure that history is preserved for future generations.

Joyce Bush’s great grandfathers on her father’s side came to Kanab between 1873 and 1875. Her mother’s grandfather came to Kanab in 1880. Growing up here, she has lots of good memories about many of the families who lived in the homes listed on the Kanab Historic Properties listing. She is grateful for the opportunity she has to serve on the Kanab City Heritage and Historic Preservation Board.
Connie Reid Zweifel is a professional archaeologist who spent the majority of her career with the U.S. Forest Service. She received undergraduate degrees in Anthropology and Biology, and a graduate degree from Washington State University. Her career has afforded her the opportunity to work throughout the western United States. She relocated from the state of Montana to Kanab, Utah, in 1997, along with her husband and two daughters, to become the Heritage Resources Program Manager for the north zone of the Kaibab National Forest. As a federal historic preservation specialist, she was responsible for the management of prehistoric and historic properties located on the North Kaibab. This included locating, documenting, and evaluating archaeological and historic sites, curating federal artifact collections, and overseeing restoration efforts for historic buildings. Additionally, she developed interpretive products, including signage, brochures, educational curricula, museum displays, and living history programs, and worked extensively with local youth, tribes, volunteers, universities and regional scientific researchers. She retired from the U.S. Forest Service in 2020, and now volunteers her time with several non-profit organizations and most recently, the city of Kanab.
